The UK government launched the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme (HSMP) on the 28th of January 2002.
The points based system was designed to encourage people who are already earning a high salary and are successful in their home country to come to the UK and seek employment.
The requirements of the Highly Skilled Migrant Programme have been updated significantly since then and have been most recently revised on 7th November 2006 where the overall points score required for approval was increased to 75 points.
A new mandatory English Language requirement is to be added to the scheme to ensure candidates have a particular level of proficiency.
If you wish to apply to enter or remain in the UK under the HSMP you must provide original documentary evidence supporting your claim to a minimum of 75 points and demonstrate the required knowledge of English equivalent to
IELTS 6. Failure to satisfy this language requirement will result in an unsuccessful application.
